Birds of a feather

Birds of a Feather. This is one of our favorite units!

We talked all about birds. We talked about robins, cardinals, bob-whites, chickadees, black-birds, owls, doves and many more!

Our bible story this week was John Baptizes Jesus. Mark 1:1-11. The kids loved hearing about the bird that came to Jesus after he was baptized.

In Art this week, we painted with feathers.

We made a bird by painting it and adding tissue paper, we also made bird feeders to hang outside.

The kids really enjoyed playing with bird seed and feathers in our sensory table.

We worked on sorting by sorting by feather color!

We read the books: Bird Calls (play the sounds & pull the tabs) and Bluebird builds a nest.

Next week will be PJ and Teddy Bear Day! Everyone is encouraged to wear their PJ's to school on Tuesday and Wednesday! You also get to bring your favorite stuffed animal!

Love,

Cassie and Jen

Loss

Update.
A celebration of David's life will be Friday, December 2 at 1:00 in the Worship Center at the West Campus.
---------------------------------------------------------
A lot of parent's have asked us to keep them updated on David Boone.

David lost his battle with cancer on December 26. Please keep Casandra and their two girls, Courtney and Carley in your prayers.

For those of you who do not know who this is, Cassandra Boone is one of our 3 year old teachers.

Merry Christmas!

Here is a better picture of our tree. The picture in the previous post, our tree looked pretty sad.
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We are both enjoying our time with our own kids! Cassie went to Florida to spend time with her husband's family. While they were there they even got to go and meet Mickey and friends. Jen went to Oklahoma to visit her grandmother.

We are missing our school friends though and can't wait to see everyone on the week of the 6th!

Before school was let out, we had a week full of festivities. We made a Christmas Wreath with our hand prints.
We also made "special" reindeer food!

One Tuesday we were able to watch the rehearsal for the older kids' program and on Wednesday we went to watch the program. They did a wonderful job.

Our school raised close to $1000.00 from raffle tickets! Way to go!!! The money is helping out a HIS KIDS family during this Christmas Season.

We had our parties on Tuesday and Wednesday. We think everyone had a good time. We had great food and it was nice to just get to visit with everyone!

We will be back on the 6th!

Exciting update on our Library!

As most of you have probably noticed our class is missing an essential center! It is our library/ book center. The second week of school our book shelf completely fell apart. We have nothing to put all of our books in, so they have been in our resource/workroom. A new book shelf was ordered for us. Not to bore you with any details, but in order to purchase a new piece of furniture for our classrooms, there needs to be a few different approvals other than just Heathers. Once we got all the approvals that were needed, we ordered our new bookshelf. Well, turns out that the bookshelf had been discontinued so we had to start from scratch on the approval process. We finally have now gotten all the approvals that we need and the new bookshelf has been ordered!
Last week, Tracy and Kimberley (the toddler teachers) were donating one of their bookshelf to our resource room and it was up for grabs whoever wanted it. Well we snatched it up before they were even half way down the hall with it :)
So...it looks like in the New Year, we will have two bookshelf for our library and book center!

Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....

You can't tell in this picture but the lights are actually 'on' on our tree. We also have several more ornaments on the tree now thanks to all of our friends who have helped us to decorate it :)

First, we are so sorry that it has taken us so long to update the blog. We have both been very busy, both of our husbands have been out of town and all we can say is that it has been CRAZY!! Thanks for understanding :)

December 1-4

Our unit this week was Brrr....it's cold! Fortunately we had a day or two that we did actually need to put a coat on "Dude!"

We talked all about how the weather can get colder in these winter months!

Our bible story this week was Joseph's Colorful Coat, Genesis 37.

We read the books: Animals in the winter, Snow Days, Bear's long nap & Mr. Snowman!

We had snow in our sensory table. The kids really enjoyed playing in it.

In Art Center this week we made snowmen out of our footprints. We made the Picasso Snowman. The Picasso Snowman is such a neat craft to reflect on if your child was here last year in our toddler class. They do this same craft (it is in your scrapbook), it is amazing to see how much they have grown in just a year!

We also played with "special snow" playdough!......(white playdough with glitter in it)

December 8-12

Our unit this week was Christmas Time is here! We talked about the true meaning of Christmas!

Our bible story was An Angel visits Mary, Luke 1:26-38. We talked about how special Mary was and Gabriel.

We read the books An Angel Visits, the 1st half of the story of He's Here from the Jesus Storybook Bible, and An old lady who swallowed a bell.

In Art Center this week, we finished up our Christmas Tree footprint pot-holders, did marble art to make a candy cane, and worked on some special pieces for our scrapbook.

On Tuesday the Mayde Creek choir came to the school to sing some Christmas songs. We were able to go and listen to them preform. We were both very proud of class, they did a wonderful job sitting, listening and enjoying the program!

We practiced using scissors in our sensory table this week with Christmas wrapping paper!

We worked on sorting with Christmas bows. We also got to work on making a birthday cake for Jesus. We also had a birthday celebration for Jackson P. and Lily's birthdays from our Wednesday/ Thursday class! The kids enjoyed yummy Santa cookies and cupcakes!

Upcoming Event

12/16 at 12:00-12:30 our Monday/ Tuesday Party

12/17 at 10:30 the 3's, 4's, & Transition Christmas Program

12/17 at 12:00-12:30 our Wednesday/ Thursday Party

12/17 Raffle drawing for the Christmas Baskets

12/17 Lily's last day, we will miss her so much as her family is moving to San Antonio :(

12/18 Early Dismissal. Classes will let out at 12:30.

A few questions have been asked about the parties. Parents are definitely welcome and encouraged to attend. However, if you work, or if you are simply not able to attend....this is OKAY!! Do not beat yourself up over this. If a child is there without a parent, we will make sure that he or she gets a little extra love and attention from us!! A few people have asked us if both parent's need to come to our party. Of course all are welcome to attend but again, if you need to work, it is certainly okay if only one parent comes.

It is a school wide suggestion, that if you come to the party you will take your child home with you when you leave. At this age two good-byes can be hard on them and confusing.

We know that there has been some confusion regarding the date of our Wednesday/ Thursday class party. We originally said the party would be on Thursday the 18th. It has changed to now Wednesday the 17th. We want to make sure Lily will be able to attend!

For our party we ask that you bring a book for our book exchange rather than presents for each student. Please bring a wrapped gift that both a boy or a girl can enjoy!

***Please know that our class will be watching the program on the 17th. Our class does not preform in this program. Both of us have children that will be in the program. We will be sitting with our families, our class is going to be sitting with the other 2 yr. old class and a fabulous parent volunteer (Thank you Rhonda!!)

***A note regarding our raffle drawing.

If you have not already purchased tickets for the amazing baskets in our lobby, please let me encourage you to do so. Not only will you get a chance to win, but more importantly all the money from this goes to a His Kids family who is very much in need this Christmas Season.

MUCH LOVE,
Cassie and Jen
