Preparing for the first day!

Starting school is a big event for children and parents alike. It can be exciting because it’s a new experience as well as stressful for those parents and children who are experiencing separation for the first time. Planning ahead will make it easier for both of you.

Our doors open at 8:55 and our school day starts promptly at 9:00!

When you arrive at our classroom you will need to do the following:

  • Put lunch in the lunch bin.

  • Put 2 labeled diapers or pull-ups (the kind with the velcro sides) in the diaper bin. This bin is in our cart.

  • Put labeled snack in the snack bin. This bin is in our cart.

  • Put your child's bag in their basket.

  • Put your child's nap mat (if staying for lunch bunch) in their basket.

  • Put your child's folder in the folder bin. This bin is on top of our cart.

  • Make a name tag for your child and put it on him or her and sign your child in for the day.

(We know all these "steps" may seem overwhelming...once you get to the school you will see it only takes about 1-2 minutes!)

If your child carries a lovey (blanket, doll, pacifier, sippy etc.) please encourage them to put it with their nap mat before entering the building (if staying for lunch bunch) or to leave it in the car (if not staying for lunch bunch.) Taking this away at the gate can sometimes be stressful as we strongly discourage you from letting your child come into the class room with such loveys.

Please say good-bye to your child at our gate. We ask that you do not come into the classroom in the mornings or at early dismissal. This can sometimes make it a little bit harder for the other children, wondering why this Mom or Dad is here but not theirs. Of course, you are welcome to come it at the end of the school day to pick up your child!

If you did not bring all your supplies to Meet the Teacher, please give them to us when you pick up your child. Please do not give them to us when you are dropping off your child. We want to be able to give 100% of our attention to greeting your children!

If your child clings to you and cries when you are about to say good-bye, the best thing to do is leave the hallway quickly. The longer you stay, typically the harder the child will cry. Generally, children who cling or cry loudly calm down within a few minutes and enjoy school. If your child continues to be upset after you leave and we cannot calm him or her down, someone from the school will contact you. Our schedule allows us to go to the playground first thing, so if your child is upset about separating, this is a great distraction!

If you have ANY questions at all, please call either one of us. We are really looking forward to the first day of school! We are going to have a great year.

Love,
Ms. Cassie and Ms. Jen

A little bit about Ms. Jen and Ms. Cassie.

Here is a little bit about us. We have been great friends for several years. We each have 4 children. Cassie has 4 boys ages: 9, 8, 7 and 5. Jen has 1 girl and 3 boys, ages: 9, 8, 6 and 4. Our children attend KatyISD elementaries and His Kids Weekday Preschool. We both belong to Kingsland Baptist Church. This will be Jen's 5th year at His Kids and Cassie's 3nd.
