Under the Sea

God created the great creatures of the sea.
Genesis 1:21

We had a great week talking all about the OCEAN and the animals that live in it!

Our bible story this week was Jonah and the big fish. In our bible story this week, we did not use our usual Beginners Bible, but a story book instead. In this story book, the whale's tummy is described as being dark and very stinky! The kids thought it was hilarious to get to scream "PEE U" at this part of the story.

We also read many books about the ocean. We were able to listen to Puffer Fish and Fidgety Fish on CD.
In Centers this week, we worked on matching different ocean animals.
We had fun using lots of ocean animal stamps.
We worked with some fun play dough stampers. In our sensory table we had water, some boats and some sea shells!

While playing in our sensory table, some of the boys hair got wet. What can you do with boys with wet hair? Why, give them mo-hawks of course!Monday, the 22nd, was Jen's birthday. Cassie brought yummy cupcakes for our whole class :)
much love,
Cassie and Jen

See you on the 22nd and the 24th!

SPRING FEVER

The fig trees are budding, and the grapevines are in blossom. How delicious they smell! Yes, spring is here!
Song of Songs 2:13
Our unit this week was SPRING FEVER!
We had loads of fun working in our Garden Center in our Sensory Table!

We worked on our fine motors in many centers this week.
We also worked on matching and number recognition. In our Art Centers this week we worked on a wind sock and did some finger painting!

A few words about FINGER PAINTING!

Sometimes as moms we catch ourselves displaying only certain types of our children's artwork. These types are the ones that look beautiful. However sometimes the ones that may not look as impressive are the ones that really are truly amazing!

We know, when you pick up your child the last thing you may want in your car is a piece of art work that is still wet (sometimes dripping) with paint. We also know that finger painted butterflies are not necessarily the most impressive keepsake craft. But let me give you a little in site as to what was going on in our classroom during this project.

Originally on our lesson plans, we were going to paint a butterfly with brushes. Last minute we decided to use finger paints instead.

The kids were so funny, they did NOT want to get "messy" with paint. So many of them kept asking for 'wipe-es' (baby wipes) for their hands. Neither one of our classes were liking this project AT ALL!

We both kept telling them it was okay to get "messy" with paint ESPECIALLY at school.
Soon our room was so loud with laughter and giggles. So much so, that teachers from next door had to come over to see what we were doing that was so much fun! We even extended our paint time with just blank butcher paper because everyone was having so much fun!

So display your child's finger painted butterfly proudly and know that this is a project that is nothing less than beautiful!
