Creepy Crawlers

We are so sorry that we skipped last week with a post. Ms. Jen got sick and was out of school on Wednesday, then out of town (in New York!) on Thursday-Sunday. Ms. Cassie's computer completely crashed. So neither of us were able to update the blog last week.

We are also so very sorry...but Jen has somehow lost the memory card from her camera!!! This is absolutely AWFUL news! We had some of the best pictures on this card that had not been developed yet. If you have any pictures from the Noah's Ark parade, or any individual pictures of your child dressed in their animal costume, we would GREATLY appreciate a copy.

Last week (October 20-23) we learned all about Creepy Crawlers and worked on the color purple! We talked a lot about bugs, spiders, and butterflies! We had spider webs all over our room. Some were even hanging from Dude :)

Our bible story was The Plagues from Exodus 7-12.
We read the books: The Very Busy Spider and Oh My! It's a butterfly.
In our art center, we made a spider web from marble art and we painted a butterfly purple.
In our sensory table, we got spiders loose from sticky webbing one day and the next we found spiders hidden in shaving cream!

(Before)

(After!)
The kids thought that it was so funny to sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider and then get "rained on" when we sang "down came the rain." We sprayed them with a water bottle!

This week (October 27-30) we are learning all about Noah's Ark! The parade went great for both classes! We were very proud of all of our little animals.
Obviously our bible lesson this week is Noah's Ark from Genesis 6-9. The kids loved naming different animals that were on board the "big boat!"
We are reading the books Why Noah Chose the Dove and A New Beginning (from the Jesus Storybook Bible.)
In Art, we made a rainbow winged dove. The kids dropped food coloring on coffee filters and then sprayed them with a water bottle to make the rainbow wings. We are also stamping animals two by two on an ark.
In our sensory table we have the Little People Noah's Ark and water!

Next week there will be a visit from the Fire Truck!! We are very excited. We will be learning all about community helpers. Our bible story will be The Burning Bush from Exodus 3.

A few Tid-Bits!
  • We can not thank everyone enough for all the books that were bought and donated to our class from our Scholastic Book Fair. Obviously we are both HUGE fans Scholastic books! They are such a great price and you can NEVER have too many books!

  • We also want to thank everyone for all the items from our wish list! You guys are the greatest parents and we could not do all that we are doing without YOU! Plus, our rooms smells WONDERFUL from our new candle :)
  • Tote Bags are in! If you have not purchased yours yet, please see Heather or Suzanne in the office!

  • If you are wondering why we have not started library yet, it is because our bookshelf broke. We have ordered a new one and we are waiting for it to come in. In the mean time all of our books are in a huge pile in our resource room :(

  • We will be starting our canned food drive for Angels of Light. This is such a truly worthy cause and such a great way to set an example for our children. Plus, class that donates the most will receive an ice cream party! Let's show the rest of the school what Class 2A is made of!!

Cassie and Jen

Noah's Ark Week

Be getting your favorite animal costume ready! Noah's Ark days will be Tuesday 10/28 and Wednesday 10/29.

If you are new to His Kids, we will do a short parade of Noah's Ark animals starting at 9:15.

Please do not feel like you need to spend a lot of money on an animal costume, the children will wear them for only about 30 minutes!

We can't wait to see everyone in their costumes!

Get out and VOTE!

Early voting starts tomorrow. Please go and vote while we have your children :)
You can go to the Cinco Ranch Branch Library (8am-5pm) or University of Houston on Mason (10am-7pm).

Me and my family

Our unit this week was All about Me and My Family! This is one of our favorite units, the kids LOVE to talk about their family! We asked each one who made their family and everyone said that their Mommy did. We talked about how God made all the people in our family and that each family is so special. Our show-n-tell was wonderful this week! The kids really loved showing off family pictures!
We focused on the color black this week.

In Art this week, we made our black books and our family collages!

Our bible story this week was Joseph saves his family, Genesis: 42-46.

Dad's and Donuts was also this week. Thank you so much to all the Dad's that were able to attend! We hope all of the Dad's will enjoy their coffee mug!

Next week our unit is Creepy Crawlers! We will be talking all about spiders, bugs and even butterflies!

Scholastic Book Orders

If you ordered books with the first Scholastic Book order, I wanted to give you an update.
I was beginning to wonder if I might have done something wrong with the order since it seems like to has been a while since the order had been placed. I checked on it tonight and it has been shipped! It is expected to arrive on 10/15. However, the preschool mail gets shipped to the Woodway location and then sent over to the West location. So it will probably be more like next week when the books actually arrive to us. I am going to look into getting the books mailed directly to the West location for future shipments.

Thank you very much for being patient!

Leaves are Falling

We had a busy, but fun week!

We learned all about Fall. We talked about the leaves and the weather changing! We focused on the color orange.

Get your child to sing our Fall song with you!

(to the tune of Fara Jacka)
Leaves are falling
Leaves are falling
Red and brown
Red and brown

Leaves are falling
Leaves are falling
To the ground
To the ground!

Our bible story this week was The Tall Tower, Genesis 11.

We had picture day on Tuesday and Wednesday. Dana did a wonderful job, we think you will be very pleased!

In art this week, we made our orange books, we started working on a special surprise for our Dad's for Dad's and Donuts, we made two pages for our scrapbooks, and we made a tree with our hand and arm and made a Fall Tree. We were very busy!

Show-n-tell went GREAT! Thank you all so much for supporting our unit and letting your child bring something that went along with what we are learning about! They were so cute coming to the front of our class during circle time and showing their friends something from home!

Thank you so much for all the support you guys have given us, we love being with your little ones each day! We can both honestly say that we are loving the two classes that we have this year!

Dad's and Donuts will be next Tuesday and Wednesday. We will have donuts in our room. This is a great opportunity for Dad to see where their child plays at school!

5 Senses

Again, we had a wonderful week. Everyone is getting in our routine and understanding how our days work!

Center time in our classroom is always the children's favorite time! It can also be the most chaotic time in our class. We have really been working on our center rotation and center buddy system. We feel like the center rotation is so important so that everyone will get a chance to participate in every center. We use the center buddy system so that your child will learn how to play will all different children, not just only the same friend every day! This teaches the kids to branch out a little, and also patience! This week was the best week yet with Centers! Most of them did a WONDERFUL job!

We learned about our 5 Senses and we focused on the color RED this week.

We tasted lemons, lemonade, unsweetened cocoa, and Hershey Kisses. We were surprised to see how many kids loved the lemons!

We smelled a lot of different scents. We sniffed coffee, moth balls, perfume, alcohol, vinegar, and mint extract. The moth balls smelled up pretty much our entire hall. It smelled horrible! They might have come home saying they "smelled yucky things!"

In Art this week, we made a Red Book and a texture collage. We talked a lot about how our fingers can feel all different type of textures.

Our sensory table was filled with all different textures: cotton balls, pillow stuffing, rose petals, and sand paper. The kids used measuring cups to mix and sort the different items.

In circle time we played a guessing game! We filled a large bag with different textured balls and the kids got to feel around in the bag and pull one out to show their friends. They really enjoyed this game! We also filled plastic eggs with different things like, rice, buttons, pennies, and cotton balls. We shook the eggs to hear the different types of sounds.

Our bible story was The Red Sea, Exodus 14. We talked a lot about Moses doing what God asked and how we should always obey God. The kids thought it was funny when we talked about Moses "raising his big stick (staff) and the water CRASHED back down!"

Next week will be talking about all about Fall! Our color focus will be orange. Our bible story will be The Tall Tower, Genesis 11.

Fall pictures are next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. The postcard that you received in your folder has a picture of what the background will be. Dana with Gigglebugs Photography will be taking the pictures. She does a WONDERFUL job. I have added her site to our links, if you have any specific questions for her.

We will beginning Show-n-Tell next week on Tuesday and Thursday. We ask that you please let your child bring something that goes along with what we are learning about as we do show-n-tell in our circle time. We will remind you on Monday and Wednesday!

Just a friendly reminder. Please try to be on time in the mornings. Our class starts promptly at 9:00 it can be somewhat hard on everyone involved if we are off to the playground when a child arrives! Saying this, we understand a random here and again late day though :)

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let us know!

Jen and Cassie

I am so sorry, we were so busy that we were not able to take but two pictures this week and they are both above! :)
